Donald Trump claimed Maryland Governor Wes Moore once called him “the greatest president.” Moore denies the claim with a brutal six-word response. Read the full story here.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again found himself at the center of controversy after making a bold claim that Maryland Governor Wes Moore quickly shot down.
During a press event announcing new executive orders, Trump described Baltimore as a “horrible death bed” plagued by crime—remarks that sparked outrage from state leaders. He then went on to allege that while Governor Moore criticizes him publicly, he once privately praised him, calling him “the greatest president of my lifetime.”

According to Trump, Moore hugged him, shook his hand, and even praised his leadership, but Moore insists that this “imaginary conversation” never happened.
Wes Moore Fires Back
Speaking on WBAL Radio, Moore flatly denied Trump’s story.

“I’m a person who takes my integrity very seriously… so when I say that conversation never happened, that imaginary conversation never happened, I mean it never happened.”
On social media, Moore kept his response short but sharp. First posting “lol” on X (formerly Twitter), he later delivered a scathing six-word response directly to Trump:
“Keep telling yourself that, Mr. President.”
Trump Criticizes Moore
Trump responded by attacking Moore’s record, claiming the governor doesn’t “have what it takes” to lower crime in Maryland. He also criticized other Democratic leaders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, labeling them as failures.

Despite Trump’s claims, Moore has remained firm in his denial and has not backed away from calling out the former president’s remarks.
The Bigger Picture
Wes Moore, often mentioned as a rising star in the Democratic Party, has been rumored as a potential presidential candidate for 2028. On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance is seen as a likely successor to Trump, although he recently told NBC it’s too early to speculate.
As political tensions heat up ahead of the next election cycles, this clash between Trump and Moore shows just how high the stakes remain.
