Vladimir Putin has reportedly shared his three clear demands for ending the war in Ukraine, including NATO restrictions and control of the Donbas. Read on for the details of his proposal.
Vladimir Putin has reportedly made his stance clear on how the war in Ukraine can end, laying out three specific demands following his meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, many diplomatic efforts have been made to stop the bloodshed, but a peace deal has yet to materialize between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Donald Trump, who has been mediating between Russia and Ukraine, met with Putin last week for the first time in years. Their discussions focused on potential solutions to bring the war to an end. Just days after his meeting with Putin, Trump met with Zelenskyy at the White House, where he also engaged with various European leaders.

Afterward, Trump shared his thoughts on how the war could supposedly end ‘immediately’ in a post on Truth Social. Trump stated that President Zelenskyy of Ukraine could end the war “almost immediately” if he chose to, but emphasized a few conditions. He posted:
“President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. No getting back Obama-given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”
Putin’s Formal Demands
According to sources cited by Reuters, Russia has reportedly issued its formal demands to bring the conflict to a close. Putin’s conditions include the following:
No NATO Membership for Ukraine – Putin has long expressed opposition to Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, which remains a central issue in the conflict.
No Western Troops on Russian Soil – The Russian president has demanded that no Western military forces be deployed on Russian territory.
Complete Withdrawal from the Donbas – Putin demands that Ukraine fully withdraw from the areas of Donbas still under Russian control.
In exchange for these concessions, Russia has agreed to halt its advances and maintain the current front lines in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, two regions that have seen intense fighting. According to reports, Russia currently controls approximately 88% of the Donbas region and 73% of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

NATO’s Continued Support for Ukraine
Meanwhile, NATO defense chiefs have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, with 32 defense leaders from the alliance participating in a virtual meeting to discuss security guarantees. NATO’s chair, Italian admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, tweeted about the successful meeting, highlighting the unity among member nations.
“Great, candid discussion among #NATO Chiefs of Defence, today. And excellent update on the security environment from our new SACEUR, his first with us,” Dragone wrote. “On #Ukraine, we confirmed our support. Priority continues to be a just, credible and durable peace.”
The ongoing discussions between NATO and Ukraine highlight the alliance’s commitment to a peaceful resolution, while tensions remain high with Russia’s continued military presence in the region.
