A Texas couple has been arrested after allegedly abandoning their 12-year-old son when they moved out of their apartment without informing him. The incident, which has raised concerns about child endangerment, occurred on October 17, when Erica Renee Sanders and Kevin Dwyane Adams allegedly packed up their belongings and left while their son was at school.
The Abandonment Allegations
According to police, the child returned home from school to find the apartment completely empty, with no furniture or belongings left behind. When questioned by authorities, the child explained that he had no knowledge of the move and had not been informed by his mother or her boyfriend. The Copperas Cove Police Department was alerted to the situation after the child’s principal contacted them around 5:18 pm.

Neighbors of Sanders and Adams also spoke to police, claiming that the couple had a history of mistreating the child, with accusations of them frequently kicking him out of their home.
Conflicting Statements from the Parents
Both Sanders and Adams provided conflicting accounts of the situation. Sanders argued that her brother was supposed to pick up the child after school, but she failed to provide any contact details for her brother to the authorities. In contrast, Adams stated that he was meant to pick up the boy and take him to his uncle’s house.
As hours passed without any effort to contact the child or make arrangements for his care, police began to question the validity of their claims. Authorities eventually contacted the uncle’s girlfriend, who revealed that the uncle had no knowledge of being asked to pick up the child.
Child Taken into Custody by Authorities

Following the investigation, the child was placed in the care of Child Protective Services. The authorities later allowed the child to be released into Kevin Dwyane Adams’ custody. However, around 9:30 pm, Adams was arrested along with Sanders on charges of abandoning and endangering a child without intent to return.
The child was ultimately placed in the care of his uncle, and the couple now faces serious legal consequences for their actions.
Ongoing Investigation
The case is under investigation, and Copperas Cove Police have not commented further on the circumstances surrounding the parents’ arrest.
