Jeff Bezos shares his bold vision for the future of humanity, predicting that millions of people will live in space within the next few decades, despite concerns over AI’s impact on jobs and civilization.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has shared a startling and optimistic prediction about the future of human civilization, hinting at major advancements in technology and space exploration in the coming decades. While many are concerned about the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on jobs, Bezos remains confident that humanity is heading toward a “golden age.”

Speaking at Italian Tech Week, Bezos painted a vision of the future in which millions of people could be living in space within the next few decades. This ambitious prediction may sound like science fiction, but Bezos believes the accelerating pace of technological progress, particularly in space exploration, will make this a reality.

“In the next couple of decades, I believe there will be millions of people living in space,” Bezos told the audience. “They’ll mostly be living there because they want to.” According to Bezos, while human presence on space stations and planets may be necessary for some tasks, like working on the moon’s surface, robots will handle much of the labor, making human habitation in space not only possible but also sustainable.

AI: A Tool for Abundance, Not Doom

Bezos also addressed concerns about the rapid development of AI, which has sparked both excitement and fear across various industries. While AI has been shown to threaten jobs in certain sectors—especially those that involve repetitive tasks—Bezos is optimistic about its potential. He believes AI will ultimately enhance human life, continuing the trend of technological inventions that have improved civilization over the millennia.

“Civilizational abundance comes from our inventions,” Bezos explained. “10,000 years ago, someone invented the plough, and we all got richer. These tools increase our abundance, and that pattern will continue.” Rather than fearing AI, Bezos sees it as a tool that can help humanity reach new heights of prosperity and creativity.

The Future of Space Living

Bezos’ prediction aligns with other groundbreaking space projects currently in development. NASA, for example, has outlined plans to build “lunar glass” domes on the moon, offering a potential solution for future lunar habitation. These domes, made from lunar regolith (particles found on the moon’s surface), could house astronauts and researchers, and, according to some experts, might even serve as the foundation for entire cities on the moon.

Dr. Martin Bermudez, CEO of Skyeports, a California-based company leading this effort, is hopeful about the possibilities. “Space has always been kind of fascinating for me,” he said, “and my background was as an architect, so I started exploring how we can build structures on the Moon or Mars.” These glass domes could one day house entire communities, making the dream of living on the moon a reality.

Looking to the Stars

Despite the challenges humanity faces today—whether from AI or global issues—Bezos remains upbeat about the potential for human innovation to overcome them. As technology continues to evolve, from AI to space travel, Bezos sees these advancements not as threats, but as opportunities for a brighter future.
