Amid a massive outage affecting Amazon Web Services and popular apps, Elon Musk mocked the situation with a cheeky two-word response, “X works,” sparking reactions online.

On October 20, 2025, the internet faced a massive disruption as a number of popular apps and websites suddenly went offline. The outages were primarily caused by issues with Amazon’s cloud services, specifically Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, which provide essential infrastructure for many of today’s top apps and websites. As soon as users noticed the widespread issues, many rushed to Downdetector to report their complaints, and social media lit up with reactions.

However, Elon Musk wasn’t just sitting back and watching. As the outage spread, the billionaire and tech mogul couldn’t resist making a cheeky comment about the situation. Taking to Twitter, Musk posted simply: “X works.”

This sly remark was a reference to his own social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), which remained unaffected by the widespread disruptions. Musk’s comment quickly gained traction, with many fans applauding his sharp wit and dig at Amazon. The tech mogul then retweeted a gif showing a crowd of people rushing to an escalator with the caption, “Everyone running to X.”

While many on Twitter took to mocking the outage, one user wrote, “Holy s***, the whole f****** internet is down,” while another tweeted, “Wow, Amazon Web Services went down and took half the internet with it.” A third Twitter user added, “Of all the things I could’ve expected today, I was NOT expecting the whole internet to go down.”

Despite the chaos, AWS engineers quickly started working to resolve the issue, assuring the public that they were addressing the root cause of the disruption. A message on their website stated, “Engineers are immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue and fully understanding the root cause.”
