Donald Trump has warned Russia of a “new step of aggression” with Tomahawk missiles if the war in Ukraine doesn’t end. The former president threatens to escalate the conflict to end the war with new weaponry.

In a bold statement on October 12, Donald Trump warned Russia that he could take a “new step of aggression” in the form of sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if the ongoing war is not brought to an end soon. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, reiterating his stance on the situation while still grappling with his recent loss of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has long claimed that his efforts in diplomacy helped end “six wars” during his presidency, and he hasn’t been discouraged by the recent setback regarding the Nobel award. Instead, he focused his attention on trying to end the war in Ukraine, a conflict that has stretched for more than a year, causing devastation in the region.

The Threat of Tomahawk Missiles

Trump warned Russia that if the war continued, he might send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. These American-made weapons are capable of launching from various platforms—ground-based, ships, or submarines—and can strike precise targets over 1,000 miles away, meaning they could be used to target Moscow itself.

“I might say, ‘Look: if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks,’” Trump said. “The Tomahawk is an incredible weapon, very offensive weapon. And honestly, Russia does not need that.”

The former president made it clear that he had discussed the potential for sending Tomahawks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who confirmed the conversation when asked by Fox News on The Sunday Briefing. “We work on it. I’m waiting for president to yes,” Zelenskyy said. “Of course we count on such decisions, but we will see.”

The Potential Impact on Russia

Trump’s warning to Russia regarding the potential deployment of Tomahawk missiles is seen as a direct threat aimed at pressuring Russia to de-escalate the conflict. “Do they want to have Tomahawks going in that direction? I don’t think so,” Trump said. “I think I might speak to Russia about that. Tomahawks are a new step of aggression.”

Trump also addressed how such a move could affect Russia’s leadership. “Putin would look great if he got the war settled. But if not, it’s not going to be good for him,” he stated, implying that an ongoing war could have serious consequences for the Russian leader.

Following Trump’s comments, the Kremlin expressed its concern over the potential delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted, “The topic of Tomahawks is of extreme concern,” reflecting the Russian government’s unease about the escalation of military aid to Ukraine.

The situation continues to evolve as global powers discuss the next steps in resolving the conflict and addressing the mounting tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
