Tim McGraw shares his thoughts on nearly 27 years of marriage to Faith Hill. Learn how their commitment and strong foundation have kept them together despite the challenges.
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are one of country music’s most iconic couples, having weathered the ups and downs of life together for nearly three decades. As they approach their 27th wedding anniversary in October, McGraw recently opened up about how their relationship has lasted the test of time.
Speaking with ET Canada, McGraw reflected on the strength of their bond and the commitment they made early on in their marriage. “I don’t know if there’s a key,” he admitted. “We just made a commitment early on, when we first decided we were going to get married and have kids, that we wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose.”
A Love That Began in Nashville
McGraw and Hill’s love story began in 1994 at a gig in Nashville, where they met for the first time. Two years later, their paths crossed again, but at that time, Hill was still engaged to Scott Hendriks. After sharing an intimate moment backstage, Hill called off her engagement, and a few months later, McGraw, who was single at the time, popped the question.

McGraw proposed to Hill at a country music festival in a trailer house, which Hill initially questioned. “You’re asking me to marry you at a country music festival in a trailer house?” she asked, to which McGraw replied, “Well, it’s pretty apropos if you think about it.” Hill agreed, leaving McGraw a note in his trailer, saying, “Yes, I’m gonna be your wife.”
The couple tied the knot on October 6, 1996, at McGraw’s aunt’s house in Louisiana, surrounded by family and close friends.
Raising Their Strong Family Together
McGraw and Hill’s relationship has been built on mutual respect and a shared vision for their family. The couple agreed early on that they would raise their children to be “strong, independent, and fierce,” with minds of their own. “And sometimes I go, ‘Dang, do we want them to be that independent and strong?’ But yeah, we’re so proud of them,” McGraw shared.

The couple is blessed with three daughters: Gracie (26), Maggie (25), and Audrey (21), who have all grown up to embody the values of independence and confidence that McGraw and Hill instilled in them.
The Secret to Their Long-Lasting Marriage
While many couples may look for a “key” to long-lasting happiness, McGraw is quick to point out that their relationship’s success doesn’t rely on any one thing. He simply credits their commitment to each other, and to facing the challenges of life and career together.
“We always say we’re 27 years coming up, it’s like 96 in show business,” McGraw joked. “It’s almost like dog years.”
As they near their 27th wedding anniversary, McGraw and Hill’s relationship continues to serve as a testament to the strength of love, commitment, and mutual respect in the face of life’s ups and downs.
