Donald Trump recently explained a ‘warning’ he gave about Osama bin Laden before the 9/11 attacks, claiming that if people had listened to him, the tragedy could have been prevented. Find out more about his statement.
During a speech at the Navy 250 Celebration on Sunday, October 5, Donald Trump made a surprising claim about his early warnings regarding Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. Trump told an audience of Navy personnel that he had predicted the threat bin Laden posed well before the attacks in 2001.
The President went on to explain how he had raised concerns about bin Laden’s dangerous influence a year before the devastating terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. He said, “Please remember I wrote about Osama bin Laden exactly one year before he blew up the World Trade Centre, and I said, ‘you gotta watch Osama bin Laden!’”
Trump suggested that his warnings were ignored, adding that “the fake news would never let me get away with that statement unless it was true.” He also mentioned speaking about bin Laden to Pete Hegseth, a Fox News personality, and noted that his 2000 book The America We Deserve contained a page about bin Laden.

“I said one year before, in the book I wrote – whatever the hell the title, I can’t tell you. But I can tell you, there’s a page in there devoted to the fact that I saw somebody named Osama bin Laden and I didn’t like it and ‘you gotta take care of him.’ They didn’t do it, a year later he blew up the World Trade Centre,” Trump said.
Trump concluded by claiming credit for warning about bin Laden, saying, “If they don’t give you credit, just take it yourself.”
Trump’s Book and Bin Laden Warning
Trump’s comments refer to his book The America We Deserve, which was published in 2000, about 18 months before the 9/11 attacks. In the book, Trump identified bin Laden as a potential national security threat, but he did not specifically predict the tragic events of September 11.

The book discusses various global crises and mentions bin Laden as a “shadowy figure” who had no fixed address. Trump wrote about bin Laden’s role in the 1998 embassy bombings and how U.S. fighter jets had attacked his camps in Afghanistan. However, Trump’s book did not foresee the devastating scale of the attacks that would take place the following year.
The mention of bin Laden in Trump’s book was brief, calling him a danger to U.S. security, but it did not suggest that he was on the verge of orchestrating an attack on U.S. soil. Trump’s comments about his foresight regarding bin Laden appear to be more about his general warnings regarding global instability.
A Divisive Claim
While Trump’s statement may have drawn attention to his awareness of bin Laden’s threat, it does not seem to align with his assertion that he could have prevented the 9/11 attacks. The claim is controversial, with critics pointing out that the information available at the time did not necessarily point to the events of 9/11. Nevertheless, Trump’s words have sparked debate, with supporters praising his foresight and critics questioning the accuracy of his claims.
