Taylor Swift shocked fans with a surprising revelation about her shower routine, admitting there’s one part of her body she refuses to wash. Find out more about her unique hygiene habits and why some experts agree with her approach.

Taylor Swift has sparked a debate online after revealing one surprising part of her body that she refuses to wash during her shower routine. The 35-year-old singer shocked fans during a 2019 appearance on The Ellen Show when she was asked about her hygiene habits.

The topic came up when Ellen DeGeneres asked Swift a seemingly simple question: “Do you wash your legs in the shower?” Swift’s response, however, wasn’t as expected. “I do, but only when I shave,” she confessed. Swift jokingly added, “The shaving cream is like soap, right?” which left the audience in stitches.

The singer’s admission that she doesn’t wash her legs during every shower surprised many, sparking confusion and even amusement across social media. Some fans were baffled by the revelation, with one writing, “Taylor Swift said she don’t wash her legs but she shaves them girl that is not the same thing wtf.” Another fan questioned, “Isn’t the shower supposed to be the place where you wash EVERYTHING?”

Despite the reactions, some fans defended Swift’s pared-back approach, with a few admitting they follow a similar routine. So, is it really that unusual?

According to dermatology expert Dr. Joshua Zeichner, washing your legs may not be as necessary as people think. In an interview with Women’s Health, he explained, “Unless your legs are visibly soiled, you don’t actually need to wash them directly with a cleanser. The cleanser that drips down your body is enough to remove most of the dirt and sweat that accumulates during the day.” He did, however, emphasize that your feet should always get a thorough wash.

While some might deem not washing your legs as unhygienic, there is growing support from dermatologists who say daily showers might not be necessary at all. Dr. Julie Russak, a dermatologist in Manhattan, told The New York Post that over-washing, especially with soap, can strip the skin’s microbiome—a delicate balance of bacteria that’s crucial for skin health.

This perspective is also backed by physician James Hamblin, who in his book Clean: The New Science of Skin discussed why he chose to stop showering as frequently. Hamblin argued that mocking those who skip showers reflects a misunderstanding of the skin’s natural ecosystem.

While society may still be surprised by Swift’s shower confession, experts are starting to advocate for a more minimalist approach to personal hygiene, suggesting that less might actually be more when it comes to maintaining healthy skin.
