In the new documentary Ozzy: No Escape From Now, Kelly Osbourne shares the “most heartbreaking” element of her father Ozzy’s illness and the emotional toll it took on Sharon. Find out more about their journey.

In a deeply emotional new documentary, Ozzy: No Escape From Now, Kelly Osbourne opens up about the “most heartbreaking” aspect of her father Ozzy Osbourne’s declining health, revealing the immense toll it took on her mother, Sharon.

Ozzy, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath, passed away in July at the age of 76, following a heart attack at the family’s estate in England. Ozzy had been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2019, the same year he suffered a severe fall that dislodged metal rods in his spine, which had been placed after a 2003 quad bike accident. The documentary provides an intimate look into his struggles, including multiple back surgeries, and the emotional strain it caused his family.

In the documentary, Kelly discusses how devastating it was to witness her mother Sharon’s emotional and physical toll as she cared for Ozzy during his final years. “I think what is happening to my mom is the most heartbreaking part of this whole thing,” Kelly confesses. “Watching the man that she loves most in this world wither is really, really hard.”

Aimee Osbourne, Ozzy’s daughter, adds: “They were both used to go, go, go, and I think for that to be taken away at such a drastic level is heartbreaking and terrifying. My mother’s role has been about maintaining all the moving parts of this; to have all those things break away has been extremely painful.”

Sharon, who was by Ozzy’s side through his struggles, explains how unpredictable Parkinson’s disease made daily life. “Because this illness is so unpredictable; one day he wakes up and he’s on the case and he’s focused. The next, it’s all gone again. There’s no rhythm to it. It’s hard on everyone, it’s hard on the family. You think everything is going to be great, and then it’s not.”

Parkinson’s disease, which affects movement and motor skills, manifests in a variety of ways, including slowness of movement, tremors, and rigidity. People with Parkinson’s may also experience difficulty walking, reduced facial expressions, and balance issues. These challenges made Ozzy’s life difficult and heartbreaking for his family, especially for Sharon, who worked tirelessly to care for him.
