A new nationwide poll reveals that nearly 50% of voters support impeaching Donald Trump again. See what’s fueling the growing movement and what experts say about the future of U.S. democracy.
A surprising new poll shows that nearly half of American voters in key districts support impeaching Donald Trump—again.
Despite already being impeached twice during his previous term, 46% of likely voters in swing Congressional districts now say they support a third impeachment, according to a poll by Lake Research Partners, commissioned by Free Speech For People.

Even more striking, 45% of those polled say they “strongly support” impeachment, citing concerns over Trump’s recent actions and leadership style.
📊 Public Support for Impeachment Grows
This latest poll focused on likely 2026 voters in swing districts and found:
46% support impeachment
56% disapprove of Trump’s current performance as president
Many cited threats to democracy and abuse of power as their top concerns
“It’s remarkable and unprecedented to see this level of impeachment support in the first year of a president’s term,” the polling firm noted in a statement.

⚖️ Legal Experts Push for Action
The poll results come alongside a renewed push from constitutional lawyers and advocacy groups, who claim Trump’s recent behavior provides at least 25 grounds for impeachment.
Among their concerns:
🚨 1. Use of Military Force in U.S. Cities
Critics point to Trump’s decision to deploy federal forces to cities like Washington, D.C., and Chicago to fight crime and disperse the homeless population—moves some have labeled as authoritarian.

Although Trump later clarified, saying, “We’re not going to war. We’re going to clean up our cities,” many remain alarmed by the language and approach.
🛑 2. Politicization of Federal Agencies
Trump has been accused of undermining the independence of the Department of Justice and the FBI, allegedly using them to target political rivals.
One example: federal prosecutor Erik Siebert reportedly resigned after pressure from Trump for refusing to prosecute Letitia James and James Comey—both of whom have clashed with Trump in the past.

📺 3. Threats Against the Media
Advocacy groups have also flagged Trump’s apparent efforts to silence media critics, including a threat to sue ABC affiliates airing Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.
The controversy erupted after Kimmel referenced Trump’s reaction to the death of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. After the segment aired, Trump hinted at legal retaliation, reigniting concerns over First Amendment freedoms.
🛂 4. Aggressive Immigration Crackdown

Since returning to office, Trump has intensified his stance on immigration:
Attempted to deport unaccompanied refugee children
Proposed revoking 18th-century laws to allow mass deportations without trials
Introduced plans for the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, with a $170 billion budget
One controversial new facility in Florida—nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz” due to its location—has drawn criticism from human rights groups for extreme conditions.

🧾 “Existential Moment” for U.S. Democracy
According to Courtney Hostetler, Legal Director of Free Speech For People:
“Trump is actively dismantling the institutions and protections that keep our democracy alive. His actions are impeachable.”
John Bonifaz, co-founder of the organization, added:

“This is an existential moment for our country. Either we enforce the Constitution—or we don’t.”
🇺🇸 What’s Next?
As public pressure grows, some members of Congress are now being urged by advocacy groups to begin formal impeachment proceedings.
Whether the movement gains momentum remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: Donald Trump continues to be one of the most polarizing figures in modern U.S. politics.
