Donald Trump’s administration faces backlash for replacing Joe Biden’s portrait with an image of an autopen. Critics call the move childish, disrespectful, and immature.

Donald Trump’s administration has sparked controversy once again, this time over a decision to replace Joe Biden’s portrait with an image of an autopen in the White House. The change was unveiled on September 24 as part of the new “presidential walk of fame,” which features framed portraits of past US presidents. However, instead of a traditional portrait of Biden, the administration opted for a digital image of an autopen signing Biden’s name.

This move was a clear reference to Trump’s previous claims that Biden had used an autopen to sign important documents, including pardons. While some of Trump’s supporters found the gesture humorous, others were quick to criticize it as petty and disrespectful, calling it beneath the dignity of the presidency.

On Twitter, one user expressed frustration, saying, “Indeed, it’s childish and beneath the weight of the office of the President. [Biden] rallied the free world in support of Ukraine’s and Europe’s freedom and sovereignty. Truly one of the most consequential presidents.”

Another commented, “Joe Biden served honorably as President of the United States. Replacing his portrait with an autopen is petty and disrespectful.”

One frustrated individual simply wrote, “Can anyone in this administration ever just grow the f**k up?” reflecting widespread irritation with what many saw as an immature move.

Even some Trump supporters were uncomfortable with the decision. “I love you guys and support your posts and the President, but this is a bridge too far for me. A little more respect and decorum is due at the White House for all former presidents,” wrote one commenter. Another pointed out, “If only you put as much effort into being president as your team does in s***posting.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has used the White House to take shots at previous presidents. Earlier this year, reports revealed that Trump had Barack Obama’s portrait moved to a more secluded location. In 2022, Obama’s presidential portrait was prominently displayed on the grand staircase of the White House, but after Trump’s return, it was relocated to the Entrance Hall.

In a more personal move, Trump also replaced the spot where Obama’s portrait had hung with an image of himself after surviving an assassination attempt. The move raised eyebrows and further fueled criticism of Trump’s unconventional approach to the White House’s traditions.
