Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended after remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death. Sinclair has now issued three strict demands before the show can return.
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is facing major backlash after his controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination — and now his show will only return if he agrees to three strict conditions.
On September 17, Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest ABC affiliate network, announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be suspended indefinitely.
The suspension comes after Kimmel mocked former President Donald Trump’s reaction to Kirk’s killing. During his monologue, Kimmel played a clip of Trump being asked about the tragedy. Instead of answering directly, Trump shifted focus to a new $200 million White House ballroom project, prompting Kimmel to joke:

“He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish.”
The remarks sparked outrage from Trump and his allies, who demanded consequences.
The Three Demands for Kimmel’s Return
In a statement, Sinclair laid out the steps that must be taken before the show can air again:
Formal Discussions with ABC
Sinclair insists ABC must address “professionalism and accountability” at the network level before the suspension is lifted.

Direct Apology to Kirk’s Family
Kimmel is required to personally apologize to the family of Charlie Kirk, who was shot on September 10 during a Turning Point USA event in Utah.
Personal Donation
Sinclair has also demanded that Kimmel make a “meaningful personal donation” to both the Kirk family and Turning Point USA, the conservative group Kirk founded.
Sinclair made it clear:
“Regardless of ABC’s plans for the program, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will not return to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”
So far, Kimmel has not publicly responded to the suspension or the list of conditions. His representatives have also declined to comment.
