Tyler Robinson, charged with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, appeared in court for the first time—saying only three words while wearing an anti-suicide vest.
The man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk has made his first court appearance—uttering just three words.
Tyler Robinson, 22, from Utah, was arrested on September 12 following the shocking shooting at Utah Valley University that left Kirk dead. The 31-year-old was struck in the neck while speaking at his “American Comeback Tour” event and later died in the hospital.

First Court Appearance
Robinson appeared virtually from Utah County Jail on Tuesday (September 16), wearing an anti-suicide vest during the four-way video call.
When Judge Tony Graf asked him to state his name, Robinson responded in a flat voice:
“Tyler James Robinson.”
Graf thanked him and confirmed that Robinson would remain in custody without bail.
Charges and Allegations
Robinson faces seven charges, including:
Aggravated murder
Felony discharge of a firearm

Two counts of obstruction of justice (for moving a firearm and disposing of clothing)
Two counts of witness tampering (urging a roommate to delete messages and stay quiet)
Committing a violent crime in the presence of children
Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray confirmed prosecutors would seek the death penalty.
Authorities also revealed a possible motive. Robinson allegedly told investigators:
“There’s too much evil, and the guy [Kirk] spreads too much hate.”
He also confessed to a roommate in a handwritten note:
“I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”

What Happens Next
Robinson turned himself in to the FBI after speaking with a family friend. Judge Graf noted “aggravating factors” in the case, including political targeting and the presence of children at the shooting.
A court-appointed attorney will represent Robinson, and his next hearing is scheduled for September 29.
Charlie Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika, and their two young children.
