Russia claims NATO is “fighting against Russia” after drones were shot down in Poland. Poland calls it a provocation, while NATO considers invoking Article 4.

Tensions between Russia and NATO are escalating after the Kremlin declared that the alliance is now “at war” with Moscow. The announcement came after several Russian drones were shot down over Polish airspace last week.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Russian drones violated Polish territory during an attack on Ukraine. He described it as a “large-scale provocation”, warning his country must prepare for all possible scenarios.

“The situation is serious, and no one doubts that we must prepare for various scenarios,” Tusk said.

Despite the drones being intercepted in Poland, Russia insists it never intended to strike Polish territory.

The Russian Ministry of Defence stated:

“The strike objectives have been achieved. All designated targets were hit.”

“No targets on the territory of Poland were planned for striking.”

Officials also noted that the drones used in the operation had a maximum range of 700 km, but they offered to hold consultations with Poland on the incident.

Kremlin: NATO Is ‘Fighting Against Russia’

The Kremlin doubled down on accusations against NATO, pointing to the alliance’s ongoing military aid to Ukraine.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters:

“NATO is de facto involved in this war. NATO is providing direct and indirect support to the Kyiv regime. It can be said with absolute certainty that NATO is fighting against Russia.”

Escalation Across NATO Borders

The drone incident in Poland wasn’t isolated. Days earlier, Romania’s defence ministry confirmed its air defenses brought down two Russian drones and an F-16 fighter in Romanian airspace—another violation of NATO territory.

Following the Polish incident, NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said on X:

“Numerous drones entered Polish airspace overnight and were met with Polish and NATO air defenses.”

NATO Considers Article 4

Poland has requested NATO to invoke Article 4, which requires members to consult if the security or territorial integrity of any member is threatened.

While Article 4 does not automatically trigger war, it signals a major step toward collective action.

With tensions mounting on multiple NATO borders, the latest developments mark a dangerous escalation in the war in Ukraine—and raise fears of an even larger global conflict.
