According to officials, the attack took place on September 13 at the Metafrax Chemicals plant in Gubakha, located in Perm Krai—a staggering 1,118 miles from the Ukrainian border and well beyond Moscow.

Perm Krai Governor Dmitry Makhonin confirmed that the facility was hit around 9:20 p.m., but insisted that:

“The facility is operating normally. Emergency services are working at the site. There is no threat to residents’ safety.”

The plant is a key producer of Ammonia, Urea, and Melamine (AUM), with a new facility opening in 2023 that produced over 300,000 tons of ammonia in just eight months. The company has been targeted by both UK and Ukrainian sanctions.

Ukraine’s Long-Range Attacks

This is not the first time Ukraine has struck deep inside Russian territory. Just days earlier, Ukraine’s defense intelligence was linked to a drone strike on a major oil refinery in Bashkortostan, nearly 930 miles from Ukraine.

Such attacks highlight Kyiv’s growing ability to hit critical Russian infrastructure far from the front lines.

In response to the escalating conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a lengthy statement on Truth Social, addressed to NATO nations and global leaders.

He warned that NATO must stop buying Russian oil and commit fully to sanctions in order to force Moscow to the table. He also called for 50%–100% tariffs on China, claiming it would weaken Beijing’s influence over Russia.

Trump emphasized:

“This is not TRUMP’S WAR (it would never have started if I was President!). It is Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s war. I am only here to help stop it, and save thousands of Russian and Ukrainian lives.”

He argued that if NATO follows his plan, the war could end quickly; if not, “you are just wasting my time, and the time, energy, and money of the United States.”

A Conflict With No Clear End
