Beau Mason, Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner, admitted in an interview with NBC News that officials are struggling to narrow the search:

“We have no idea. We’re exploring leads for individuals that live close by. We literally have persons of interest, tips coming in on the tip line, that are spanning far and wide.”

The FBI confirmed that trace evidence was collected from the rooftop, including shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. In addition, the shooter’s weapon and ammunition were later recovered from a wooded area near the university.
