Trump Confirms Suspect in Charlie Kirk Assassination Is in Custody

Donald Trump announced that police have the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination in custody. The FBI earlier released images of the shooter and offered a $100,000 reward.

Former President Donald Trump has provided a major update in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Charlie Kirk, confirming that police believe the suspected gunman is now in custody.

Kirk, a conservative political commentator, was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at an open-air event at Utah Valley University. The shooter fired from a rooftop before fleeing into the crowd, sparking a nationwide manhunt.

Trump Shares Breaking Update

During a live appearance on Fox News’ FOX and Friends, Trump revealed he had just been told the news before going on air.

“I think with a high degree of certainty we have [the suspect] in custody,” Trump said.

He added that someone close to the suspect turned him in, praising law enforcement for their coordinated efforts:

“They did a great job. Everybody worked together.”

FBI Evidence and Reward

The FBI had earlier released photos and video of the suspect, who blended into the student crowd because of his college-age appearance. Footage shows the individual walking across the street and disappearing after the shooting.

Authorities confirmed a $100,000 reward had been offered for information leading to the shooter’s capture, though it is not yet clear if anyone has claimed it since the arrest.

Trump said he spoke with Kirk’s wife, Erika Lane Frantzve, describing her as “absolutely devastated.”

He also urged the public to avoid retaliation, reflecting Kirk’s commitment to peace:

“He was an advocate of non-violence. That’s the way I’d like to see people respond.”

Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, also visited Kirk’s family in Salt Lake City. Vance shared a personal tribute online, recalling their friendship dating back to 2017 and through his Senate campaign.

Medal of Freedom Honor

In a symbolic gesture, Trump announced that he would posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The FBI investigation remains active as officials continue piecing together the full details of the assassination.
