Poland shot down Russian drones after a major airspace violation. EU leaders call it intentional aggression as Russia issues a response. Full details here.
Fears of a wider war in Europe grew after Poland confirmed Russian drones entered and violated its airspace on September 10. The drones were shot down with help from NATO allies, marking the most serious breach of European skies since Russia’s war in Ukraine began.
According to officials, the incident lasted several hours and involved multiple drones, which Poland called a deliberate “act of aggression.”
EU Leaders React
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas condemned the actions, saying:

“Russia’s war is escalating, not ending. Last night in Poland we saw the most serious European airspace violation by Russia since the war began, and indications suggest it was intentional, not accidental.”
Russia’s Explanation
In response, Russia’s Ministry of Defence admitted the drones crossed into Poland but claimed they were not meant to target Polish territory.
“The strike objectives have been achieved. All designated targets were hit. No targets on the territory of Poland were planned for striking. The maximum flight range of the UAVs used does not exceed 700 km. Nevertheless, we are ready to hold consultations with the Ministry of Defence of Poland on this matter.”

Previous Incidents
This is not the first time Poland has raised concerns:
August 2025 – A Russian drone crashed and exploded in a Polish cornfield.
March 2025 – Poland scrambled fighter jets after a Russian missile briefly crossed its airspace.
2022 – A stray Ukrainian air-defense missile landed in Poland, killing two people.
European Response
The violation has sparked strong condemnation across Europe:
Hungary stands in full solidarity with Poland following the recent drone incident. The violation of Poland’s territorial integrity is unacceptable.
The incident proves that our policy of calling for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war is reasonable and rational. Living in the shadow…

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared solidarity with Poland, saying:
“The violation of Poland’s territorial integrity is unacceptable. Living in the shadow of a war is fraught with risks. It’s time to make it stop.”
Romania’s President Nicusor Dan accused Russia of “behaving aggressively” and “defying peace efforts.”
As tensions escalate, Poland’s NATO allies have expressed support, warning that any further aggression could trigger broader consequences.
