Angelina Jolie is preparing to part ways with one of Hollywood’s most iconic estates. The 50-year-old actress, known for her roles in Maleficent and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, is reportedly putting her Los Angeles home up for sale. The estate, valued at $24.5 million, has been her residence for several years, serving as both a family home and a sanctuary for her philanthropic efforts.

The decision to sell comes as Jolie looks ahead to a future beyond Los Angeles, especially now that her children are growing older. With her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, set to turn 18 soon, Jolie is reportedly considering a life overseas.

A Hollywood History of Glamour and Legacy
Jolie purchased the historic home in Los Feliz, California, in 2017. The property spans more than two acres and was built in 1913, offering six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, four fireplaces, a wine cellar, and even a tea house. The grounds are surrounded by formal gardens and a pool with cascading fountains, all set against stunning views of the Griffith Observatory.

The estate carries significant Hollywood history. It was previously owned by the legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille for about 40 years and is also linked to film icon Charlie Chaplin. This rich legacy adds an extra layer of allure to the already stunning property.

Jolie has described the home as a place that provided both comfort and space for reflection, particularly during the pandemic when she and her children quarantined there. “I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away,” she said in a 2021 interview, referring to her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.

Moving Beyond Los Angeles
Though Jolie has spent much of her adult life in Los Angeles, she has long expressed a desire to live abroad. She has been open about her wish to move once her children reach adulthood, citing the need for privacy and peace. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,” Jolie shared in a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Now that her children are older, Jolie is exploring new opportunities and plans to spend significant time in Cambodia, a country close to her heart, where she has previously worked on humanitarian projects. She also plans to visit family members across the globe, finding joy in the quiet moments away from the spotlight.

In addition to moving abroad, Jolie has recently reflected on her long-term plans, noting that she feels a deep sense of connection to places outside of the United States. “I grew up in this town,” she said. “I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”
The Future of the Property and Hollywood Real Estate
As Jolie prepares to move on from her stunning estate, another celebrity residence is making headlines. Richard Gere’s former estate in New Canaan, Connecticut, was recently demolished to make way for a nine-lot subdivision, igniting mixed reactions online.
While some fans mourn the loss of the property’s historic charm, others have supported the idea of progress and development. Just as Hollywood properties change hands, so too do the lives and choices of those who once called them home.
For now, Jolie’s decision to sell marks a new chapter for the actress and her family. While her Hollywood legacy remains intact, Jolie is moving toward a future that’s more aligned with her personal values and the needs of her children.
