A grieving Michigan father speaks out after his daughter Sarah, 20, was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend following months of stalking.
Father Mourns Daughter Killed by Ex-Boyfriend
A Michigan family is mourning the loss of 20-year-old Sarah, who was tragically killed by her ex-boyfriend on August 30 outside her home at the Woodland Villa Apartments in Westland.
Authorities say the man fatally shot Sarah with a shotgun before calling 911 to admit to the killing, then taking his own life.
Signs Something Was ‘Off’

Sarah’s father, James Carroll, described the suspect as someone who always made him uneasy:
“He just didn’t like to talk. He never looked you in the eye. He wasn’t sociable. It just seemed like there was something off with him.”
Despite his suspicions, Carroll said he never imagined the man would commit such violence.
Sarah’s mother, Jennifer Thomas, revealed that her daughter had been trying to obtain a restraining order against him after enduring months of stalking.
Remembering Sarah
Friends and family describe Sarah as a bright, loving, and ambitious young woman who was thriving in school. She was on the Dean’s List and had dreams of entering the medical field after graduation.

Her father recalled:
“Everybody loved her. She was beautiful, smart, and so helpful. She had a way with people—she was funny, sarcastic, and just a joy to be around.”
Her mother added:
“She lit up every room she walked into. Her smile was brilliant, and she was so smart.”
An obituary shared online remembered her humor, her love for doing her eyelashes and nails, her trips to Canada, and even her playful dislike of spiders.
A Community in Mourning
Sarah’s death has been listed as caused by gun violence on her family’s GoFundMe page, which has already raised over $21,000 to support them during this heartbreaking time.
The family wrote:
“We love and miss her more than words can ever say. Thank you for your prayers, your donations, and the love you’ve shown our family.”
