Christine Brown details the “awkward” and “painful” first sexual encounter with her ex-husband Kody Brown in her new memoir Sister Wife. Learn more about her candid revelations.
In her explosive new memoir Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom, Christine Brown, star of Sister Wives, makes a shocking revelation about her first sexual encounter with ex-husband Kody Brown. The 53-year-old mother of six, who was married to Kody from 1994 until their divorce in 2021, offers an intimate look into her polygamous marriage and the complexities that led to its eventual collapse.

Christine, known for her role in the popular reality TV series Sister Wives, married Kody in a spiritual union, becoming his third wife. The memoir details her Mormon upbringing, the breakdown of her 28-year relationship with Kody, and the painful details of their first sexual experience.
The couple’s first time, which took place at a castle-shaped motel in Ogden, Utah, was not the magical moment Christine had imagined. She explains that she had expected intimacy to be a safe and beautiful experience with Kody, who had been married to his other wives, Meri and Janelle, for years. Instead, the encounter turned out to be painful, leaving Christine in tears.

“I wasn’t completely clueless, and I trusted him,” Christine wrote, reflecting on her initial expectations. “But it hurt because there was no foreplay. There was no anything.”
Christine continued to describe how she had imagined the moment to be romantic and filled with affection. Instead, it left her feeling sore and disheartened, which prevented them from attempting to have sex again during their honeymoon. “I figured things would get better,” she recalled, but the disappointment lingered.
Two years into their marriage, Christine’s experience with intimacy took a turn, and she described her first accidental orgasm as a moment of realization. “Oh, that’s what everyone’s been so excited about…” she thought at the time. Despite a few years where their sex life seemed to improve, Christine still felt the distance between herself and Kody.

The memoir also highlights the stark differences between Christine’s relationship with Kody and his bond with his other wives, Meri and Janelle. She recalls feeling “shocked” at how close Kody was with them, both emotionally and physically. Christine noted how they often shared intimate moments, and how she could hear their activities through the thin walls.
Despite the challenges in her marriage, Christine eventually found love again with David Woolley after her divorce from Kody. Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom gives readers an inside look at Christine’s personal journey of healing, finding freedom, and reclaiming her life.

Season 20 of Sister Wives premiered on September 28, 2023, on TLC, where fans can continue to follow the Brown family’s journey.
