Elon Musk’s daughter, Vivian Wilson, opens up about her strained relationship with her billionaire father, sharing insights into her life without his financial support and her struggles in Los Angeles.

Vivian Wilson, the daughter of tech mogul Elon Musk, has shared a candid message about her life after cutting ties with her billionaire father. In a heartfelt interview with The Cut, Wilson spoke honestly about the estranged relationship, her decision to transition, and the challenges she faces living in Los Angeles without any financial help from Musk.

Wilson, who is Musk’s oldest child, came out as transgender at the age of 16. After turning 18 in 2022, she officially petitioned to change her name and gender, making it clear in court documents that she no longer wished to be related to her biological father. “I no longer live or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” she wrote in her petition.

The father-daughter relationship has been strained for years, especially after Wilson transitioned. Musk, known for his outspoken political views, made headlines when he claimed that Wilson had been “killed by the ‘woke mind virus’” while campaigning on behalf of MAGA Republicans. Wilson quickly responded, setting the record straight on social media, reminding him that she was very much alive.

While Musk’s public remarks have contributed to the rift, Wilson’s estrangement with him goes beyond their political differences. Before their fallout, she attended a school in Bel-Air before transferring to Ad Astra, a school Musk created for his SpaceX employees. The unconventional nature of the school, which focused on STEM subjects and lacked traditional grading, was part of Musk’s decision to move Wilson. Later, she transferred to Crossroads in Santa Monica, where she graduated alongside children of other prominent figures.

Now, as a young adult, Wilson has embraced independence, making a life for herself without relying on her father’s vast wealth. In the interview, Wilson was frank about her financial situation, revealing that she doesn’t have the financial freedom many people assume she does. “College is expensive, I don’t have that inheritance. People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds and thousands of dollars at my disposal,” she explained.

Unlike her father, who is often in the spotlight for his immense wealth, Wilson has no desire to live a life centered around money. Instead, she shares a modest living space with three roommates, making the most of her situation by choosing a more affordable lifestyle. “It’s cheaper,” she said, demonstrating that she values simplicity over material wealth.

A New Chapter Away from Fame and Fortune

Wilson’s decision to step away from the influence of her father and carve out her own path reflects her desire to live authentically. She may be the oldest of Musk’s 14 children, but her priorities are rooted in finding happiness and independence, rather than wealth or fame.
