Florida State freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is currently in critical but stable condition after being shot on Sunday night, following his team’s thrilling victory over Alabama. The shooting took place in Havana, Florida, about 16 miles from Tallahassee, according to the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office.
Pritchard was visiting family at the time of the incident, sitting in a vehicle outside an apartment building when the shooting occurred. He was later found wounded in the vehicle and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
Florida State University (FSU) issued a statement confirming the situation, saying, “The Pritchard family is thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals, and asks that their privacy be respected at this time.” The university also indicated that further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
Coach Mike Norvell Responds to the Tragedic Incident
FSU head football coach Mike Norvell addressed the situation on Monday, September 1, calling it “tragic.” He shared that he had been at the hospital with Pritchard’s family and had gathered with the team to provide an update on the linebacker’s condition.

“I was there in the hospital until early hours, and through Ethan’s dad, he gave me the opportunity to be able to share a little bit of where things were,” Norvell told reporters. “We had an opportunity to gather with the team this morning just to give them an update and a perspective on where that is.”
Pritchard’s Background and Football Career
Ethan Pritchard, who hails from Sanford, Florida, enrolled at FSU in January and was excited to begin his collegiate career. Though he did not feature in the Seminoles’ season-opening win over Alabama on Saturday, August 30, he was part of the team and has a promising future ahead.
The FSU football program expressed their support for Pritchard, tweeting, “Ethan Pritchard is in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound last night while visiting family in Havana, Florida.”
Sending Support and Prayers
As Pritchard fights for his recovery, the FSU community, as well as fans and supporters, are sending their thoughts and prayers. The Pritchard family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, and the football program has pledged to keep fans informed as more updates become available.
