A grieving mother shares a powerful sign from the sky that she believes proves her daughter, who died in the Texas floods, is now with God. Learn about the tragedy and the families’ efforts to create lasting change.
After the tragic loss of her eight-year-old daughter Eloise in the devastating Texas floods earlier this year, Missy Peck shared a heartfelt message, claiming that she has “proof” her daughter is now in heaven.
In July, Eloise was attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp in Central Texas, when catastrophic flooding hit the region. A month’s worth of heavy rain fell in a matter of hours during the Fourth of July weekend, causing water levels in the Guadalupe River to rise dramatically. This led to deadly flash floods, claiming at least 135 lives, with most of the fatalities coming from Kerr County, where Camp Mystic is located.
Eloise was one of 27 campers and counselors confirmed dead after the flooding. Camp Mystic expressed its sorrow, releasing a statement that read: “Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.”

Amid her grief, Missy Peck said she experienced a powerful moment that gave her peace. While sitting around a bonfire with friends and family, Missy looked up and saw a clear sign in the sky, which she believes was a message from God, the universe, and her daughter Eloise. “There was an ‘E’ – a very clear ‘E’ in the sky, crystal blue,” she shared with NBC DFW.
Missy’s experience wasn’t the only one. Lila Bonner, Eloise’s best friend and fellow camper, also died in the floods. Lila’s mother, Caitlin Bonner, revealed that she too received a sign. After Lila’s death, Caitlin begged the universe for a sign, and it came in the form of ladybugs. “There were ladybugs all over our interior staircase inside. Not just one, but 10 on the first day,” Caitlin recalled. Later, on the first day of school, Caitlin and her daughter Scarlet found dozens of ladybugs on their front porch. “Mom, Lila’s here!” Scarlet said, adding a layer of comfort to their sorrow.

In the wake of this unimaginable loss, the families of Eloise and Lila have come together to form the Heaven’s 27 Foundation. The foundation aims to push for change by promoting the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act. This act focuses on improving camp safety through prevention, detection, training, and response measures, with the goal of making camps and communities along the Guadalupe River safer for future generations.
“We’re trying to honor their legacy and let this tragedy be a catalyst for change,” said Blake Bonner, Lila’s father. The Heaven’s 27 Foundation represents a heartfelt effort to ensure no other family endures the pain they have, as they work toward a safer future for Texas campers.

While nothing can bring back Eloise or Lila, their families remain steadfast in their mission to protect others, ensuring that their loss leads to meaningful change.
