Waters, a vocal critic of the Trump administration, warned that his desire to control interest rates and appoint loyalists to the Federal Reserve could be a sign of dictatorial ambitions. She stated, “He wants to control the Fed. He wants to be able to determine interest rates. He wants to have the people on the governing board that will do exactly as they are told. This is extraordinarily dangerous.”

The California Democrat went on to say that Trump’s actions could potentially destabilize the economy. Waters emphasized the need for immediate action to address the threat she believes Trump poses to U.S. democracy.

Calls for the 25th Amendment

Waters took a strong stance, suggesting the use of Article 25 of the U.S. Constitution to remove Trump from office. She called for the Cabinet, which she described as being made up of Trump’s “sycophants,” to take action and recognize his unfitness to serve. “It is time to call for Article 25 to determine his unfitness,” Waters said, referring to the provision that allows the vice president and the majority of the Cabinet to declare a president unfit to serve.

She went on to stress that the situation was dire, urging lawmakers to move “very aggressively” to prevent further damage to the country. “We need to talk about the danger to this country and to our democracy and not play around with this,” Waters said.

Waters’ Previous Criticisms of Trump

This is not the first time Waters has been outspoken against Trump. Earlier, she warned that Trump’s actions could lead the U.S. into a war with Iran, especially following an attack on U.S. facilities in June. Waters said at the time, “Trump is out of control and does not contribute to an establishment of peace.” She also called for a diplomatic solution rather than military action, stating that the U.S. needed to focus on peaceful negotiations.

Trump, however, defended his military strikes on Iran, claiming that they had been successful in disabling Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. In a televised address, Trump declared the strikes a “spectacular military success,” saying the U.S. had effectively stopped the nuclear threat posed by Iran.

The Debate Over Trump’s Leadership

Waters’ calls for the 25th Amendment come amidst growing concerns from some Democrats about Trump’s leadership style and his handling of national security. The debate over his fitness to serve has intensified, with his critics fearing that his decisions could have dangerous consequences for both the U.S. economy and its position on the world stage.

While Trump remains defiant, claiming military successes, the calls for his removal signal the deep divisions within American politics. As the country heads into another election cycle, these discussions are likely to grow more intense.
