The Tragic Incident

At approximately 10:17 a.m. on August 2, Richmond police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment building on East Grace Street. When officers arrived, they found two men on the ground, both unresponsive with gunshot wounds.

Turck, who had been walking his dog nearby, saw the confrontation between a 19-year-old male and an adult woman. Attempting to defuse the situation, Turck approached the altercation and tried to help. In response, the 19-year-old pulled a gun from his backpack and shot Turck before turning the weapon on himself.

An eyewitness to the event described how Turck, a random bystander, tried to step in and de-escalate the conflict. The witness stated, “That’s when the situation escalated, and the shooter shot the bystander and then himself.”

Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards called the incident a tragic example of gun violence, emphasizing that Turck was simply trying to help someone in need. “This is a heartbreaking reminder of the urgent need to combat gun violence in our society,” he said.

After the shooting, Turck was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries were too severe. His family was informed that he would not survive. In his final act, Turck donated his organs, potentially saving multiple lives. His family expressed immense pride in his heroic actions.

A Passionate Actor and Community Member

Adam Turck was known not only for his acting talent but also for his deep involvement in the Richmond community. A multi-nominee for the Richmond Theatre Community Circle Awards, Turck won the Best Actor in a Play Award in 2018 for his role in Hand to God. His recent performances included roles in Smoke at Cadence Theatre and preparations to star in Dracula: A Comedy of Horrors at Richmond Triangle Players.

In addition to his theater career, Turck was a dedicated trainer at Tequila and Deadlifts gym, where he was a familiar face, often accompanied by his beloved dog, Lana. The gym’s owner, Kerith Rae, remembered Turck as a kind-hearted and energetic individual who left a significant impact on everyone he met.

“I cannot explain the size of the hole that has been left in our gym community, in our theater communities, and in the world,” Rae shared with local news. “Adam was the kind of person people write about because they want to be that good. He just was.”

A Legacy of Kindness

Turck’s friends and family fondly remembered him as someone with an unwavering moral compass and boundless energy. “He was one of the most kind-hearted, energetic people I’ve ever met,” said CJ Bergin, a close friend. “At the end of the day, Adam was like Superman. He was always there to help, even at the risk of his own life.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Turck’s platonic partner, Chelsea Burke, relocate and rebuild her life in Richmond. All remaining funds will go toward causes Turck was passionate about, continuing his legacy of kindness and helping others.
