A devastating accident took place during a circus show in eastern Germany when a talented acrobat fell during her act and lost her life.

Marina Barcelo, a 27-year-old trapeze artist from Mallorca, Spain, was performing in front of around 100 people—many of them children—when she fell from a height of 16 feet. The heartbreaking incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, under the big top of Circus Paul Busch in the town of Bautzen.

Despite immediate medical attention from emergency responders, Marina was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Five meters is not a high fall for trained acrobats. Something unexpected must have happened,” he said.
