A young man’s dream vacation to Puerto Rico took a tragic turn when 25-year-old Kevin Mares lost his life after attending a Bad Bunny concert. What was supposed to be an unforgettable experience with his girlfriend, Angy Argüello, and a friend ended in heartbreak.
Kevin’s Dream Come True Turns to Tragedy
Kevin, Angy, and their friend traveled from Queens, New York, to Puerto Rico for the Bad Bunny concert on August 10, 2025. The concert was a long-awaited dream for Kevin, who had been a fan of the reggaeton superstar for years. However, after the show, tragedy struck.
The group decided to visit a club in La Perla, a coastal neighborhood in San Juan. A fight broke out nearby, and a gunman opened fire. “Somebody got a gun and started shooting, and unfortunately, they hit my son in the abdomen,” said Kevin’s father, Hector Mares. According to authorities, Kevin was an innocent bystander.
Angy’s Heartbreaking Five Words
Kevin was rushed to a hospital, but despite the efforts to save him, he passed away. Angy, who had been in a relationship with Kevin for nearly six years, had to make the gut-wrenching call to Kevin’s parents to deliver the news. With just five words, she shattered their world: “I’m sorry. We lost him.”
Kevin’s mother, Sandra Mares, expressed her disbelief: “We couldn’t believe it. We thought it was a joke.” She shared cherished memories of their family weekends, grilling hamburgers and singing karaoke — memories now filled with grief.
Angy’s Heartbroken Instagram Stories
In the wake of the tragedy, Angy shared her deep sorrow on Instagram. “My love, I love you. I miss you so much. Why God did you take him away from me?” she wrote. She also posted a heartfelt video of their shared moments, capturing the love they had for each other. The Mares family later confirmed that Kevin had planned to propose to Angy this fall.
Kevin’s Bright Future and Career Aspirations
Kevin was not only a loving son and friend but also a young man with big dreams. He had worked at Meadowbrook Veterinary Hospital in Long Island for eight years, alongside his aunt, Diana Mares. “He loved animals, he was so gentle,” she shared. Kevin was also preparing to begin his veterinary studies in the fall.
“Everybody loves him, everybody,” said his father, Hector. Kevin had a strong work ethic, taking care of his pets and even enjoying cooking in his free time. “We never imagined that would be the last time we saw him,” Hector added, recalling their final goodbye before Kevin left for Puerto Rico.
Ongoing Investigation and Family Appeal
As the investigation into Kevin’s death continues, no arrests have been made. The Mares family is pleading with the public to come forward with any information about the shooting. They have also created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of transporting Kevin’s body back to New York and for his funeral.
Kevin will be remembered as a kind, passionate, and devoted young man, full of life and dreams for the future. His tragic death has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him, especially his family and girlfriend. What was meant to be a celebration of music and love ended in tragedy, forever altering the lives of those left behind.
