Haliey Welch, known as the ‘Hawk Tuah Girl,’ condemns social media users for celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death, urging compassion and respect.
Haliey Welch Speaks Out After Charlie Kirk’s Death
Haliey Welch, the viral internet personality famously dubbed the “Hawk Tuah Girl,” has broken her silence in a rare statement following the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at a college event in Utah, sparking shock across the country. But as tributes poured in, some online users appeared to celebrate his death—a reaction Welch says is “sick.”

“That Is F***ing Sick”
In a two-minute Instagram video, Welch addressed the controversy directly:
“Over the last few days, I’ve seen some of the most outrageous and heinous things you could possibly see on this app. For some people to applaud another human being dying, in front of his family, that is f**ing sick. You’re a sick individual.”*
She emphasized that regardless of political disagreements, basic respect should be shown for Kirk’s wife and children.
“If you didn’t like him, fine. But if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. The man just passed away.”

Call for Compassion
Welch went on to criticize the growing division in American society, urging followers to show more compassion.
“We live in a mean and evil world. People need to start being nicer, showing more compassion, or the chickens will come home to roost.”
She also referenced other recent tragedies, saying the U.S. needs less hostility and more humanity.
Backlash Over Crypto Past
Despite her plea for kindness, Welch faced criticism from followers who resurfaced her 2024 crypto controversy.
Last year, she launched a memecoin that many buyers claimed left them with heavy financial losses. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) later investigated but ultimately did not press charges, stating:
“The SEC closed the investigation without making any findings or sanctions against Haliey.”
Still, critics continue to accuse her of betraying fans.
From Meme to Viral Figure
Welch first went viral in June 2024 after her infamous “hawk tuah and spit on that thing” comment during a comedy street interview. The clip turned her into a social media sensation, spawning merchandise, collaborations, and eventually her crypto venture.
Her latest comments mark one of the few times she’s addressed a serious national issue, shifting her online persona beyond the meme that made her famous.
