Donald Trump booed by US Open crowd during men’s final in New York. Cameras caught his awkward reaction as fans blamed him for security delays.
Cameras Capture Trump’s Awkward Reaction as US Open Crowd Boos Him
The US Open men’s final wasn’t just about tennis on Sunday (September 7) — it also featured a viral off-court moment when Donald Trump was loudly booed by the New York crowd.
Trump Booed at US Open Final
The former president attended the final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, marking his first US Open appearance since 2015, when he was launching his 2016 presidential campaign.
As cameras panned to Trump during the national anthem, the crowd quickly erupted into boos.
Though a few fans initially clapped, the applause was drowned out by jeers.
Trump responded with an awkward smirk, taking his seat in a VIP suite next to a winner’s trophy after being invited by Rolex.
The reaction highlighted the polarising views many New Yorkers hold toward the president.

Trump’s Response
Despite the crowd’s reaction, Trump later told reporters he enjoyed attending the US Open:
“The fans were really nice. I didn’t know what to expect. Usually you would say that would be a somewhat ‘progressive’ crowd.”
He downplayed the booing, suggesting he wasn’t bothered by the reception.
Fans Blame Trump for Long Delays
Some attendees were frustrated before the match even began, blaming Trump’s arrival for extended security checks.
A fan named Kevin told Reuters he had waited over an hour to enter:
“One hundred percent him. Very selfish. I would expect someone like that to have more grace, especially in a city that hates him.”
The Secret Service later acknowledged the delays:
“We recognise that enhanced security for the US President’s visit may have contributed to delays. We thank every fan for their patience and understanding.”
Off-Court Controversy at This Year’s US Open
This wasn’t the only off-court drama during the tournament. Earlier, fans were outraged when a man was seen snatching a hat given to a young boy by Polish player Kamil Majchrzak.
Still, the focus on Sunday ultimately shifted to Trump’s awkward moment — proving that even at a tennis championship, politics can steal the spotlight.
